K9 Colt chases down Escambia County attempted murder suspect after chase, crash

PENSACOLA, Fla. - A Florida Highway Patrol K9 helped track down an attempted murder suspect Wednesday in Escambia County.

Najee Rich, 25, is charged with:

  • Attempted Homicide
  • Robbery/Home Invasion with a Firearm
  • Making a False Police Report
  • He is being held in Escambia County Jail without bond. WEAR News still working to learn details about the charges.

    FHP observed Rich speeding Wednesday in the area ofMichigan Avenue and Memphis Avenue.

    The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says he also had illegally tinted windows and was "acting suspiciously, trying to conceal himself by lowering his posture and attempting to hide behind the b-pillar in his vehicle."

    A high-speed pursuit ensued, with Rich traveling more than 100 mph on Michigan Avenue in the rain. He eventually crashed into a pole.

    Authorities say Rich tried to run from the crash, but troopers released K9 Colt, who "maintained the apprehension while Troopers placed the suspect under arrest."
