Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services Inc.'s annual Bowls and Bakers event is back for its 21st year Nov. 13 at the Brat Stop Parkway Chateau from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The event, 12304 75th St., features soups from local chefs and restaurants across Kenosha County. Tickets are $25, or $20 for patrons ages 60 and older, can be bought at the door or in advance online at kafasi.org/bowlsbakers2024 .

"Last year, it was standing room only," said KAFASI Executive Director Ronald Tatum. "So now we have more extended space to hold a capacity of close to 400 people."

There will also be commemorative soup bowls available for attendees at the event.

Tatum said the outpouring of support for the event speaks to community awareness and "our presence and our relationship in the community."

"We put (together) a strong strategic plan effort to rebrand ourselves and rebuild relationships in this community, and to see that many people come out and support us speaks volumes that what we're doing is working," he said. "People are also taking notice, and they want to be part of the solution as we navigate some of these programs to help those that we made a commitment to serve."

The funds raised during Bowls and Bakers will support KAFASI's programs, which include meal delivery, transportation services, and health and wellness initiatives.

KAFASI's Meals-on-Wheels program delivers free meals to adults age 60 or older in Kenosha County.

"More and more seniors are living below the poverty level, and those living above the poverty level are still struggling to eat, and we continue to have seniors who are making difficult choices to pay for medication or food," Tatum said. "If we don't have the resources and funding, we can't meet the demand, and that's what we're struggling with right now. We're trying to avoid putting individuals on wait lists and things like that."

In addition to its Meals-on-Wheels program, KAFASI also offers programs for family preservation, anger management counseling, tech assistance and companion programs for homebound individuals, as well as other various community partnerships.

The event is still seeking sponsors. The deadline for a sponsorship that includes advertising is Monday, Nov. 4. More information on sponsorships is available at kafasi.org/bowlsbakers2024 .

It's still soup season, and this week's recipe roundup features five comforting recipes to get you through the rest of winter.
