Keansburg Will Build A New Pickleball Court At Collins Field
KEANSBURG, NJ — On Oct. 28, Monmouth County announced a list of towns that will receive county funding to make municipal park improvements.
Middletown did not receive any money, but Keansburg did: Keansburg received $75,000 from the county, and the big news is Keansburg will use it to build a brand-new pickleball court next to the Collins Field tennis courts.
Keansburg will build a brand-new, 2,600-square-foot pickleball court, said Mayor George Hoff. It will have an eight-foot high chain-link fence around it to keep balls contained.
Cracks will be repaired and resurfacing of the existing three tennis courts will also be done.
Hoff said he expects the project will be awarded in December 2024. He anticipates construction will start in February 2025 and the new pickleball court will be completed in May 2025.
Hoff said Collins Field Park is where local and high school programs/leagues call home, and he praised its proximity to the Henry Hudson Bike Trail, which provides access to the nearby Bayshore communities.
Collins Field is located at the corner of Wood Avenue and Wood Street in Keansburg, and adjacent to the Henry Hudson Bike Trail
The Keansburg High School tennis team plays on the existing three tennis courts there. Resident can use the courts for free when not in use by the local Titan tennis teams.
Nearby, Aberdeen Township got $475,000 from the county to build a new snack stand and bathrooms at the baseball diamond at Fireman's Field.
The towns that were awarded funding through the 2024 Municipal Open Space Grant program are as follows:
