Kentucky weather tomorrow: Soaking showers and gusty winds

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A gloomy and, at times, wet start to Thanksgiving week picks up even more as a widespread soaking rain works into the Commonwealth on Tuesday.

This much-needed rain will roll in and move out without causing too many travel issues ahead of Thanksgiving Day.

A large low-pressure system is riding northeast through Arkansas Monday night and will continue to track northeast into Tuesday.

Widespread rain showers ramp up quickly ahead of Tuesday morning’s commute time, with periods of moderate to heavy rainfall likely through much of the morning.

The heaviest rain will slowly wrap up by midday, with lingering showers sticking around into Tuesday evening. We’ll start to dry out on Wednesday.

Gusty winds will blow up to 40 mph at times as this system rolls by. Low temperatures will bottom out in the upper 40s overnight before rebounding near 60 for Tuesday afternoon.

Rainfall totals will be beneficial for us as we try to relieve some of the drought conditions across the state.

Totals will range from low-end spots seeing 0.25” to high-end spots sneaking towards 1.5” of rain. Most will likely see somewhere between 1/2” and 1” of rain.

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy, with high temperatures in the upper 40s. The wind will slow down a bit, too.

Thanksgiving Day looks wonderful as a region of high pressure files in to clear us into the sunshine with high temperatures near average in the low 50s.

We keep that theme going for Black Friday and into the final weekend of November, with another shot at some light rain early next week.
