Kerry Writer’s Museum event reunites film-makers

The event was the brainchild of filmmaker Leo Finucane who bought his first movie camera in 1978 and made eighteen feature films over the next thirty years.

"Three hundred people from north Kerry and west Limerick took part in the making of these films" said Leo ahead of the event and as a result, Leo planned the reunion in Kerry Writers' Museum as a way of re-connecting with all those he met over the years.

Angela Ryan, CEO at Siamsa Tíre, and Cllr John Sheahan both starred in "Red Haired Mary" back in 2003 and they were on hand the Friday night to host a special screening of this ground-breaking film on the night.

The film, which also starred Jill McCarthy from Moyvane and Mick Ahern from Athea, explored the clash of cultures between the settled and traveller communities in 1930s Ireland.

The event, Cara Trant, the director of the Kerry Writer's Museum, celebrated one of the most remarkable experiments in movie making in Ireland and it was a chance for the public to meet the people involved.
