Killer caught on camera is convicted of Brixton murder

Murderer caught after stabbing filmed by dashcam A man has been found guilty of murder after a revenge attack in south London was caught on camera by a passing motorist.

Keleen Wong, 22, was stabbed by Kyiza Sandiford in Brixton in October 2023.

Sandiford, 24, used what was described at the Old Bailey as "an appalling weapon" with a blade more than a foot long.

Sandiford, from Merton, south-west London, was unanimously convicted following a five-week trial and is due to be sentenced on 22 November.

On the evening of the attack, Mr Wong had been speaking to a driver through the window of a Volkswagen Polo in Coldharbour Lane when he was approached.

Footage from the dashcam in the following car allowed police to work out the identity of the killer, prosecution barrister Jacob Hallam KC told the court.

Sandiford was seen in front of a group that had their hoods up and faces covered.

The driver of the car behind the Polo told the court that it seemed to her Sandiford had "crept up" on Mr Wong before stabbing him with a large, straight knife he had taken out of a sheath.

Another witness, who had been in a taxi, said he saw a man run from the scene with a large knife.

'Blood trail' The prosecution said Mr Wong's murder was in response to the earlier murder of a friend of the defendant called Ronaldo Scott who was stabbed to death in September 2023.

Mr Wong was thought to be associated with those who killed Ronaldo Scott, the court heard.

Police found a blood trail left by Sandiford - who had cut his own hand - that led to the streets around Brixton Station Road, where Sandiford had arrived at a friend's house.

Not long after he was taken to Kings College Hospital with a severe cut to his left hand, where he gave a false name.

Samples of the blood trail were taken and the DNA proved a match for Sandiford.

At his trial Sandiford denied being the man who had stabbed Mr Wong and claimed he had cut his hand while climbing through a window.

But his DNA was detected on the sheath of the knife used in the stabbing - and an electronic tag he was wearing - that recorded his movements - showed he had been at the location of the stabbing.

Two defendants, both aged 16 and who cannot be identified due to their age were acquitted of murder.

Sandiford and one of the boys were convicted of possession of an offensive weapon.
