King Tides on Pawleys Island could cause street flooding

(WCBD) – Pawleys Island residents could potentially be impacted by the projected King Tides starting Thursday.

Officials say the high tides are forecast to be higher than normal through the rest of the week, increasing the potential for street flooding.

The Town of Pawleys Island says it will likely be similar to the extent of flooding during the King Tide Cycle in September.

Officials ask drivers to use caution while traveling on and off the island during the following days and timeframes:

  • Thursday, October 17 – 8:32 a.m.

  • Friday, October 18 – 9:22 a.m.

  • Saturday, October 19 – 10:12 a.m.

  • Sunday, October 20 – 11:05 a.m.

  • "The tidal flooding caused by these King Tides can cause damage to your own vehicle and the wake caused by driving through a flooded street can exacerbate problems for adjacent landowners," said Town of Pawleys Island officials.

The town is currently developing a Master Drainage and Flood Mitigation Plan for the island, according to town officials. As part of this process, they are requesting that residents submit photos and observations from around their properties during this week using the provided survey link here .
