Sports Kirk Herbstreit Sends Strong Message After Illinois' Upset Win Against Nebraska

Kirk Herbstreit took to social media with a message Bret Bielema and Illinois after they pulled off an upset win against Nebraska on the road Friday night.

The Illini entered as a 9.5-point underdog and forced overtime with a fourth-quarter touchdown. Illinois scored on its opening possession of overtime and was able to send Dylan Raiola and the Cornhuskers backward to seal the victory.

Illinois racked up 381 yards of total offense and quarterback Luke Altmyer put on a show. The junior passes completed 21 of 27 passes for 215 yards and four touchdowns.

"What a HUGE win for Illinois in Lincoln to remain unbeaten! Congrats Bret Bielema," Herbstreit wrote on X after the score went final.

Illinois moved to 4-0 with the win, following victories against Eastern Illinois, Kansas, and Central Michigan. Illinois became the first team to win a pair of games over AP Top 25 teams this season. It's the first time since 2007 that Illinois has accomplished that feat, and the program is off to its best start since 2011.

It's Bielema's fourth season at Illinois. He entered the year with an 18-19 record as the skipper of the Illini.

On the other side, Nebraska has lost 25 consecutive games against Top 25 teams.
