Kirkland Crossings adds to Pewaukee senior living campus with 77-unit apartment building

PEWAUKEE - A four-story senior housing complex has broken ground at Ryan Street and Highway 16 in a year-long construction project, expanding an existing campus that officials say reflects the strong market for such homes.

The new building at Kirkland Crossings , owned by the nonprofit senior living provider Presbyterian Homes & Services , is expected to be completed in December 2025. It will add 77 new independent living apartment units to the larger 12-acre campus featuring varied housing styles and care-dependent options.

"This expansion opens new opportunities for seniors to enjoy an active lifestyle set in the beauty of lake country," La Kelvin Hill, Kirkland Crossings campus administrator, said in a news release.

Campus includes townhomes, assisted-living and memory-care units According to Presbyterian Homes & Services, Kirkland Crossings already has 60 independent living senior apartments, 22 townhomes, 40 assisted-living apartments and 20 memory-care apartments.

Hill said those facilities, and their proximity to Pewaukee Lake just south of the site, enhances the value of the campus for its residents. The campus itself has natural amenities — ponds, prairie meadows and foot trails, plus a "town center."

"Our community offers residents the freedom to pursue their passions while giving them the peace of mind that additional care and services are available, should they experience health changes," he said.

The new building, at 600 Quinlan Drive, will include additional "community spaces" — a club lounge, fitness center and outdoor amenities for gathering and socializing — and apartments that have balconies or patios, fireplaces and even wine refrigerators in some places.

AG Architecture , CG Schmidt Construction , Bremer Bank and Senior Housing Partners (the development division of Presbyterian Homes & Services) are part of the project and design team, which has focused on seniors' needs, according to its representatives.

"Our task is to bring 'vision to life,' and we know many future residents will benefit from the housing, amenities, services and beauty of this community," Jeremy Theis, managing director, CG Schmidt Construction, said in the news release.

Market is strong for senior living communities David Rustad, senior communications specialist for Presbyterian Homes & Services, said in an email interview that PHS is trying to meet a firm demand for such housing in the region, including in Pewaukee.

"Kirkland Crossings is an established senior living community in Pewaukee and in high demand," Rustad said. "We strive to meet the needs of the local population, which shows demographic trends requiring more housing for older adults. We are proud to be able to offer these new independent living apartments, which will enable more seniors to live well within Kirkland Crossings."

The expansion concludes the development of the campus, he added. Reservations are already being accepted for the new apartments.

Presbyterian Homes & Services also owns and operates Avalon Square in Waukesha, Dickson Hollow in Menomonee Falls, Fairway Knoll in Germantown, Towner Crest in Oconomowoc and Stair Crest in Muskego.
