ROCHESTER — Gray Media's changes to its Mankato TV station means its morning and noon newscasts will be broadcast by KTTC-TV in Rochester.

Atlanta-based Gray, which owns both KEYC-TV in Mankato and KTTC in Rochester, recently announced the changes in the wake of reported layoffs in the Mankato station's newsroom on Friday.

The Mankato Free Press reported that 12 employees were laid off from KEYC's newsroom. KEYC News Director Mitch Keegan confirmed to the Free Press that the staff had been reduced, but he declined to provide details.

"We've combined some positions and resources with our sister station, KTTC-TV out of Rochester, to provide local and regional newscasts, and that includes our morning and noon newscast as well as some of our newscasts on the weekends," Keegan told the Free Press.

KTTC's morning and noon newscasts are now aired on KEYC-TV. Gray described the coverage of the "regionalized" newscasts as prioritizing "First Alert Weather forecasts, overnight breaking news, and important information from our respective communities."

The new partnership will also add a KTTC weekend morning newscast to Mankato's offerings.

KTTC Station Manager Stephanie Hedrick said the Mankato adjustments will not result in any changes for Rochester viewers.

"KTTC is proud and excited to collaborate with our Gray sister station, KEYC, in bringing timely news and weather to morning, noon and weekend viewers in southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa," wrote Hedrick in a response to Post Bulletin questions about the changes. "Our local teams continue to focus on the communities they serve by seeking out and delivering the most important news of the day for our followers on all our TV and streaming platforms."
