LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - You can expect to see a lot of pink Saturday morning if you drive past Baptist Health Hamburg.

This is because people will be out getting their steps in, in support of breast cancer awareness month.

This is Baptist Health Lexington's first 'Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.'

They say they wanted to do something to get the whole community involved to honor breast cancer patients, survivors and their families.

Spend a nice fall morning walking either one or two miles around Baptist Health Hamburg.

Attendees can enjoy refreshments, raffles, and a panel discussion afterward to learn more about breast cancer and prevention.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the U.S.

The American Cancer Society says one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer over the course of a lifetime. This year alone, they project there will be more than 313,000 new breast cancer cases.

Peggy Wheeler, a Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator at Baptist Health Lexington, says that aside from getting mammograms, staying healthy is one way to reduce your risk of breast cancer.

"We are just so proud of the ladies who have come to us for their care and who have now survived breast cancer or who are actually going through treatment now. We want to uplift you and support you," said Wheeler. "With Thanksgiving coming up, it's a perfect time, while you're with your family, to find out a little bit about your family history, and knowing that is very, very helpful."

If you don't want to walk, you don't have to. You can still come out and show your support.

Anyone coming is asked to meet at the Cancer Center at Baptist Health Hamburg at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Parking will be accessible for all visitors.
