HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Gov. Ned Lamont and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) joined forces on Friday to try and pass the Kids Online Safety Act as soon as possible.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal plans to reintroduce Kids Online Safety Act

The state leaders spoke with students at the Barnard Environmental Science and Technology School in New Haven, asking them how they feel about social media. They discussed the dangers that young people face online and the need for protections.

The bill would regulate the features that kids use on social media platforms in attempts to reduce harms and addictiveness.

"I think it was very important and it needed to happen because well, we need to talk about the problems right now," Yeabsira Mulualem, an 8th grader, said.

According to Blumenthal, 86% of Americans want the Kids Online Safety Act passed. The bill passed through committee earlier this week and is now advancing on to the House.
