November 29, 1938 - June 24, 2024

MADISON - Larry Dean Midthun, age 85, of Madison, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, at his home. He was born on November 29, 1938, in Madison, Wis., the son of Theodore and Marie (Aers) Midthun.

Larry graduated from Deerfield High School in 1957. Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army shortly after the Korean War. On June 22, 1963, he married Roberta (Bryant) Midthun at Luther Memorial Church in Madison, Wis.

Larry worked as a Route Salesman at Gardner Baking Company; while there he won a contest for the highest sales and best display, competing with stores across the nation. After that, he owned a franchise in Archway Cookies before retiring in 1999. In his retirement, he enjoyed his time in Florida in the winter months playing cards, listening to live music and socializing with friends. His other favorite things in life were family camping trips, Christmas, ice cream and sharing his quick wit and great sense of humor with those around him. Larry also volunteered as an usher for many years at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Madison.

Larry is survived by his wife, Roberta; son, Steven (Kris) Midthun; daughter, Paula (Nathan) Reis; grandchildren, Abigail Reis and Nolan Reis; sisters, Mary Lou Lund, Gloria (Henry) Horstmann; sisters-in-law, Lynn Midthun, Shirley Midthun, Lucille Lansing and Mary Wampfler; brother-in-law, Palmer Christen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty (LaVerne) Gulseth, JoAnn Midthun and Linda (Richard) Bongard; brothers, John Midthun, Theodore Midthun and Thomas Midthun; sisters-in-law, Virginia (John) Petersen, Phyllis (Paul) Ulrich and Janet Christen; and brothers-in-law, Robert Lansing, Kenneth (Beverly and Vergalene) Bryant and Robert Wampfler.

A celebration of life will be held at niversity Ave., Middleton, at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, with Pastor Katya Ouchakof presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Monday.
