An 18-year-old was arrested and charged with smuggling after a chase ended in a crash in west El Paso Friday evening.

The incident happened on Friday around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Mesa Street and Doniphan.

A trooper tried to stop a silver GMC Yukon suspected of human smuggling.

A DPS Trooper attempted to stop the Yukon for a traffic violation near Doniphan and N. Mesa Street.

The Yukon immediately fled away from the trooper's lights and siren.

At the intersection of N. Mesa Street and S. Desert Blvd, the Yukon crashed into five vehicles that were stopped at the traffic light.

Eight involved occupants of the five cars sustained minor injuries; only one person was taken to the Hospital of Providence, and the rest refused to be transported.

There were also four migrants inside the Yukon, two women, one man, and one 6-year-old boy.

All four were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol.

The driver of the Yukon was identified as 18-year-old Andre Maurice W Marrujo of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Agents took Marrujo into custody and booked him into the El Paso County Jail for human smuggling and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
