James "Jim" W. Scheel

James "Jim" W. Scheel, passed away on August 6, 2024, at the age of 81, at Overlake Hospital, Bellvue, WA. He was born January 19, 1943, in Jackson, MI, to William and Gertrude (Kaegebein) Scheel.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and twin brother, John F. Scheel.

Due to his father's employment, the family moved several times before the final move to Billings, MT. There, Jim excelled in sports, especially his love for basketball. He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1960 and went on to graduate in 1964 from the University of Pacific with a degree in Business. He received an athletic scholarship to play basketball for the UOP Tigers. While attending college, Jim enrolled in the United States Marine Reserves. He was a Reservist until shortly after graduation.

Jim remained in California for several years, where he worked for Wells Fargo Bank. From there, he was employed as Assistant Athletic Director at San Jose State University, continuing his involvement in the sports he loved. One of the many people he met was Bruce Jenner, who contacted Jim for permission to utilize the facilities at San Jose State to practice for the Olympics. Jim permitted him.

His final employment years were in maritime investigations, beginning in California for several years before opening his own business, James W. Scheel Investigations, located in Seattle, WA. His successful business operated for more than 25 years.

Jim's home was located in Issaquah, WA. He spoke often about the stream that ran behind his home and the Salmon runs/spawning every year. Although not allowed to fish behind his home, he returned often to Montana to fish in the lush waters. He spoke of his love of fishing, the outdoor activities he enjoyed, and his home state of Montana.

Jim was very supportive of his family, particularly his brother, Bob, and niece and nephew: Alison and Michael.

Jim is survived by his brother, Robert "Bob" Scheel; niece, Alison Scheel; nephews: Michael (Sydney) and Aaron Scheel; sister-in-law, Patricia "Patty" Scheel; and cousins: Elly Gray, Asha Gallo and Tami (Nick) Binder.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held in Billings, MT, on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Jakes Westend, 2425 Gabel Rd.
