BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The prime minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis visited the Southern University Ag Center on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Terrance Michael Drew met with several leaders from the Southern University System, including System President Dennis Shields, Southern University Baton Rouge campus Chancellor John Pierre, Board of Supervisors Chairman Myron Lawson and several others to discuss expanding global partnerships with international institutions, according to a news release.

"The integration of modern agricultural techniques is critical for the future of food production in small island states," said Drew. "Southern University's advancements in this field provide a model for how we can further develop our own agricultural sectors in St. Kitts and Nevis," he said.

According to a news release, he went to Cafe LaCumba, Fisher Hall, the Southern Institute for Medicinal Plants Laboratory and the Experiment Station at the Southern University Ag Center.

The visit comes after the Southern University Ag Center signed an MOU with the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Education in December 2023. This agreement allows them to "provide sustainable and environmental agriculture consultant services to the Minister of Agriculture, including certification courses in vendor food safety," a news release said.

An MOU was also signed with Southern University's Baton Rouge campus in September 2023.
