SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Additional Georgia counties have been approved for Federal disaster assistance: Bryan, Butts, Camden, Charlton, Glynn, Long, Newton, and Wayne Counties have been approved for FEMA Individual Assistance, FEMA announced last night .

FEMA's Individual Assistance program offers Federal funding for individuals impacted by natural disasters, including for those who incur housing costs, food costs, and for other vital supplies.

Georgians seeking assistance applying for Individual Assistance can visit Ossoff.senate.gov/Helene to find a full resource guide, including step-by-step instructions. This Guide is also available in Spanish at Ossoff.senate.gov/es/Helene .

  • Individual Assistance is not a substitute for insurance and cannot compensate for all losses caused by a disaster. The assistance is intended to meet your basic needs and supplement disaster recovery efforts.

  • Families, individuals, or businesses with insurance should file claims with their insurance company as soon as possible. By law, FEMA can't provide benefits for losses covered by your insurance.

  • However, you may still qualify for Individual Assistance, even if you have insurance.

  • Individual Assistance may include:

  • Funds for temporary housing while you are unable to live in your home, such as rental assistance or reimbursement for hotel costs

  • Funds to support the repair or replacement of owner-occupied homes that serve as the household's primary residence, including privately-owned access routes, such as driveways, roads, or bridges

  • A temporary housing unit , if approved for the disaster, when you are not able to use rental assistance due to a lack of available housing resources

  • Funds for other uninsured or under-insured disaster-caused expenses and serious needs
