GRAND ISLAND — Laura M. Volcek, 66, of Grand Island, passed away on October 11, 2024, at the Grand Island Regional Medical Center.
Laura was born on February 11, 1958, in Omaha, to Charles "Chuck" and Antonette "Toni" (Sklenicka) Volcek.
Laura graduated from North Platte High School in 1976. She attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney for her undergrad classes and received her PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. She worked at many pharmacies in North Platte and Grand Island.
Laura was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She was an avid quilter and was active in her quilters group. In her spare time, she enjoyed scrapbooking and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her father; aunts and uncles; and her beloved cat, Zippurr.
Those left to cherish Laura's memory include her siblings, Linda Volcek of Kernersville, N.C., Luanne (Mark) Fhuere of Grand Island, Chip (Christine) Volcek of Lincoln and Joe (Denise) Volcek of North Platte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
When her mother was called Home, they were reunited in Heaven three days later.

Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, with Father Jeffrey Nelson officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Stephen's columbarium.
