Lemont Scout Builds Garden Beds, Beautifies Library For Eagle Project
"They built raised garden beds, planted some beautiful flowers, and landscaped the area around and beneath. A lot goes into these projects, and we were so excited that he chose the library for his project," Erin Richmond, Marketing Coordinator for the library, told Patch.
The youth patio area is located in the west side of the library, outside the children's department.
Owen, of Lemont Scouting America Troop 49, managed a group of scouts and scout leaders to help build the two raised garden beds, install them, plant a row of St. John's wort bushes and refresh mulch in almost all the planted areas on the library's property. Mulch was donated by the Lemont Park District.
"The scouts planted a variety of flowers in the garden beds for the remainder of the season. This spring, the library plans to work with local organizations to plant vegetables which could be donated to local food pantries," Richmond said.
Richmond added that Owen's work "beautifying the library's grounds makes the library a wonderful place to see; a place our community can be proud to call its own."
Owen officially became an Eagle Scout last month.
