Letter: Call for our congressman to expel Santos

On 1 November 2023 Representative Doug LaMalfa, along with a majority of his GOP colleagues, voted against expelling George Santos from the House of Representatives. Despite mounting evidence of corruption and malfeasance, LaMalfa sided with Santos.

On 16 November the House Ethics Committee announced “substantial evidence” that Santos violated federal law. This includes using campaign contributions to pay for Hermes, Sephora, and OnlyFans, an adult entertainment website. Santos has announced he will not run for re-election.

Meanwhile, the GOP persists in its “impeachment inquiry” into Joe Biden, an undertaking LaMalfa endorses (LaMalfa press statement 12 Sept). To date, many dozens of hours have been devoted to this fishing expedition yet there is no credible evidence of malfeasance. This inquiry continues full steam ahead. I trust you readers see the irony.

LaMalfa and his “good friend” Mike Johnson (LaMalfa press statement 25 Oct) have thus far colluded to protect Santos not because they believe he is innocent until proven guilty; they fear losing a vote in the House. Meanwhile they waste countless hours of the public’s time in a pointless pursuit of the president.

I call upon LaMalfa to vote to expel Santos from the House immediately. Dispense with the faux inquiry into Biden. Show your constituents that you stand for fairness, transparency, and accountability. The voters of Butte County are watching.
