Letter: Condemn Hamas in rallies
My heart is breaking for both the Palestinian people and the Israelis who are suffering from this war. But I cannot stand with the people who now say they are rallying in support of the Palestinians.
These pro-Palestinian protesters are not condemning Hamas. Soon after Hamas butchered unarmed Israeli children and elderly people, and took innocent hostages they are still holding, these rallies started, and those first rallies openly celebrated what Hamas did. To see Americans celebrating the brutal murders of children and unarmed civilians was sickening, adding a horrible dimension to Hamas’ heinous actions.
Hamas is harming civilian Palestinians also. Instead of trying to protect civilians, Hamas hides themselves among and behind Palestinian civilians, putting Palestinian children and other civilians in the crossfire. They don’t seem to care if their own people are killed as long as it makes Israel look bad.
Hamas takes in hundreds of millions of dollars every year, yet does not use it to help the Palestinian civilians they are supposed to be governing. Instead, Hamas makes wiping Israel off the face of the Earth its highest priority, which is just one more way they are hurting their own people. How could Israel possibly accept Hamas operating right next to them when Hamas’ chief aim is to destroy them?
Pro-Palestinian protesters would have a lot more credibility if they condemned Hamas and what they did and the danger they put Palestinians in at the same time that they say they are supporting the Palestinian people.
