Letter to the editor: Temple Grandin is a true hero

E.Chen28 min ago

Temple Grandin is going to be in Butte on Oct. 22, at the Butte Civic Center. I would encourage anyone to attend.

Temple Grandin is responsible for changing how animals in slaughter houses are treated. She fought for humane treatment for those animals.

When she was two and a half years old, she was diagnosed autistic, but at a time when little was known about autism. The medical profession told her mother to have her committed to an institution for the mentally insane. Thankfully her mother did not listen to them.

Temple Grandin became a spokesperson for people with autism, an genetic condition that was little understood back in 1947 when she was born.

She also spearheaded the movement for humane treatment of cattle in slaughterhouses. She is truly a hero and I would encourage anyone to attend this seminar.

Anyone affected by autism, whether themselves or a loved one, I believe would be truly moved by listening to this woman's experience with autism.
