Baldwin's essay got specific about how best to address inflation

Regarding the columns by Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Eric Hovde (Sept. 15), Baldwin's essay included specific acts that she advocates to reduce costs while Hovde spent most of his piece explaining how inflation was created and part of his essay on his claim that he is more qualified to solve the inflation problem, without mentioning any specific solutions to the problem.

Baldwin is correct that price gouging contributed to causing inflation and she has sponsored legislation that will limit price gouging. She backed the Affordable Care Act which allows pre-existing conditions and children under 26 to be covered. Recently, she advocated negotiating with drug companies and got some prices to be reduced.

Tammy Baldwin essay: 'Greedflation' is driving prices higher. I wrote a bill to stop gouging.

Eric Hovde essay: Inflation is crushing Wisconsin families. Blame federal spending, regulations.

Baldwin has sponsored a bill that would reduce tax breaks to predatory real estate investors and legislation that would provide 3 million housing units to reduce the housing shortage and costs and be partially paid for by corporate real estate investors. She is working on several bills to reduce child care costs.

Hovde advocates for generally reduced federal spending, deregulation and eliminating green energy mandates with no specific proposals.

Hovde's essay showed clear grasp of best how to address inflation

One of my favorite TV shows used to have a segment called Point/Counter Point which they covered both sides of an issue without bias, something that is sorely lacking in the mainstream media today.

As a retired business executive, I read Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Eric Hovde's explanations of how they would address inflation (Sept. 15).

Eric Hovde essay: Address root causes of gun violence. Don't restrict law-abiding citizens

Tammy Baldwin essay: Common sense firearm safety laws can curb gun violence epidemic

I think Hovde approached the issue analytically utilizing well proven economic principles of supply and demand and the overall effect of the significant increase in the money supply on inflation. The increase in the money supply was a direct result of the current administration's excessive spending and the Federal Reserve printing money.

Baldwin, on the other, hand listed several programs (child care, housing) and blamed corporate America for price gouging. She did not address the core economic reasons for inflation in the first place.

I feel Hovde addressed the inflation issue with an accurate assessment of the problem. Baldwin probably missed Econ 101 in college. Hovde could have taught the class.
