Limerick motorist caught speeding during first hours of National Slow Down Day

A number of notable detections have been highlighted as part of the 24-hour road safety initiative which began at 7am this Thursday.

An Garda Síochána, alongside GoSafe, monitored the speeds of 37,777 vehicles nationwide, identifying 68 cases where drivers exceeded the speed limits.

One of the most concerning instances was recorded locally in Limerick, where a vehicle was detected traveling at 106 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the R512 near Grange Bruff.

Other detections during the first five hours include; 94km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the N4 Drishoge Carrick-On-Shannon Roscommon, 113km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R245 Cashelshanaghan Letterkenny Donegal, 127km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N22 Gortatlea Tralee Kerry, and 128km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N4 Culleen Beg Mullingar Westmeath.

An Garda Síochána have thanked motorists across the country for their compliance.

"We continue to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads," said a spokesperson.
