Little League District 53 Intermediate All-Star Baseball: American Canyon comes back to stun Napa American for title

The American Canyon Little League Intermediate All-Stars stunned undefeated Napa American 14-2 in the noon championship game to force a second game and won 13-2 to claim the District 53 title on June 23 at the ACLL fields.

American Canyon went on to play in the Section One tournament at Hamann Field in Novato, where their first game was Saturday. Results are forthcoming.

Undefeated during the regular season, American Canyon fell to Napa American in its District 53 tourney opener on June 18, but came back with five straight wins to win the banner.

In the first title game, LJ wright pitched a one-hitter with two unearned runs on nine strikeouts and four walks. He faced 21 batters and threw 48 strikes.

Bently Restivo doubled in American Canyon's first run and the hosts added five runs on one hit in the second. With Ary Pacheco, Jaxon Mims, Khalil Mejia and Athan Felix drawing walks, American Canyon scored three more runs in the third and Wright helped his cause with a three-run double in the fourth.

The hosts milked 12 walks and had six stolen bases.

That forced a winners-take-all second title game at 3 p.m. and American Canyon kept rolling. Ma'Kai Little dominated on the mound, facing 26 batters and throwing 59 strikes.

At the plate, Felix drove in four runs on three hits and Wright hit a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the fifth. The hosts added four more runs in the sixth on three hits.

Mikey Wilson hit a solo homer to center field, Mims drive in Pacheco with a groundout, Little singled in a run, and Felix drove in the last two runs for a four-inning walkoff victory.
