UPDATE (11:50 a.m.) - KSBY News Senior Reporter Shannon MacNeil spoke with San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder Elaina Cano on Tuesday morning about the importance of getting your ballot in by the deadline.

"I would say, please make sure that you, if you plan on dropping your ballot off in a U.S. mailbox, to please check the collection time on that box, because even though it's not 8 p.m. yet, the collection time might have already passed," Cano said. "So make sure that they get their vote by mail ballots postmarked by the post office if they're still open. The other thing is, you know, don't wait too late. Avoid the lines that are going to be out there... I hope there are lines and everybody shows up. We've had a great turnout so far, so I just really encourage people. It's still not too late. Even at 5 p.m., we've got three hours left in the polls."

Cano says voter turnout in San Luis Obispo County is typically high compared to other counties in California.

"We are amazing. In comparison to counties of like-size, we are doing far better in our turnout right now. I haven't looked at the statistics yet, this morning, but the Secretary of State's Office does put it out there for all 58 counties to show what our percentages are and we are always in the top ten. Always." ___

UPDATE (9:02 a.m.) - Haven't dropped off your ballot yet? The deadline is 8 p.m. tonight.

Get your ballots in by 8 p.m. tonight
