Live Updates: Florida Gators vs. No. 5 FSU
— One team is trying to make a bowl game. The other is playing to keep its national championship dreams alive. Both are trotting out backup quarterbacks and despite a huge discrepancy in records, Vegas thinks it could be close.
Welcome to Florida-Florida State, 2023.

Last Saturday, Florida’s Graham Mertz and FSU’s Jordan Travis — the team’s quarterbacks — each sustained season-ending injuries within a couple hours of each other. That means backups Max Brown of Florida and Tate Rodemaker of FSU have been thrust into starting roles — and the spotlight.
FSU has been very good this season and made timely plays when it counts most. Florida, on the other hand, has at times been stuck in neutral with a young roster. But the Gators did show signs of life on the road against a top-10 Missouri team last week before faltering at the very end. And, they have played the more difficult schedule.
Can Brown, an inexperienced second-year player, rise to the challenge? Can the Gators’ defense slow an FSU offense with multiple playmakers? And can Florida coach Billy Napier get that signature win his team desperately needs?
We are about to find out.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
