L-L alum leads East Stroudsburg to PSAC football win over Millersville

S.Wright26 min ago

Lampeter-Strasburg graduate Sean McTaggart has played a few games on Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

But the former Pioneer, now a redshirt junior quarterback for East Stroudsburg, never had a game like he did Saturday afternoon, when he accounted for four touchdowns to lead the Warriors to a 57-17 PSAC East rout of Millersville.

"It felt good," McTaggart said of playing so close to home. "I haven't been home in a while and to have the support from home and my family was great. It was a really cool day."

McTaggart hooked up with Justin Cook for a pair of long touchdown passes in the first quarter. The first, a 33-yarder, capped a one-play scoring drive.

The second was an identical route by Cook that went 42 yards, giving the Warriors (1-1 PSAC East, 4-1 overall) a 14-7 lead a short time after the Marauders had tied the game on a Jaiden Abrams' 2-yard TD run.

"He had a heckuva game," McTaggart said of Cook, who finished with seven catches for 111 yards and also returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 99 yards for another touchdown. "When we get him the ball in space it's tough for defenses to adjust to that."

Turnover troubles

The Marauders turned the ball over three times, all interceptions, against ESU.

Marauders quarterback Ryan Zeltt, making his second straight start, was picked off three times on passes that were deflected in some way, shape or form be either an MU receiver or Warrior defender.

The Marauders, who have lost five straight to start this season and 11 in a row dating back to last fall, now have 10 turnovers, including nine interceptions.

"When we're not shooting ourselves in the foot, we can be pretty good," said Marauders coach J.C. Morgan. "We saw some of that the last couple weeks, but at times, we're making it very easy for our opponents. That was on high display today."

Key statistic

After the Warriors punted on the game's opening possession they scored on nine consecutive drives and none of their first eight scoring drives lasted more than six plays.

The 57 points are the most allowed by the Marauders since a 62-10 loss to Kutztown in 2018.

"We've made it very easy for our opponents to get into the end zone," Morgan said. "We have to address that."

Up next

The Marauders are back home next Saturday (12 p.m.) when they host Shippensburg.
