NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Dozens of protesters filled Orange Street, in New Haven, Saturday afternoon to show solidarity with the Palestinian people on the Global Day of Action.

Protestors gathered on the New Haven Green at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The New Haven act of disruption was organized and presented by the Connecticut Palestine Solidarity Coalition.

The New Haven protest was one of many on October 5th, with rallies also planned for Virgina, Rhode Island, New York, and the White House.

The website ShutItDown4Palestine.org served as a hub for organizations and activists to plan and register protests, with the site stating, "As we approach the one year mark of the genocide on Gaza, a coalition of Palestinian organizations in North America and Europe have joined forces for an international day of action on October 5th: 1 year of genocide, 1 year of resistance."

Not all of the protests were as peaceful as those in New Haven. In Rome , thousands of activists were subjected to tear gas and water cannons from police trying to disperse the protests.

Members of Connecticut's Jewish community are also supporting the Global Day of Action. The New Haven chapter of Jewish Voices of Peace told News 8, "While we support our partners in the CT Palestine Solidarity Coalition, JVP New Haven did not participate and chose to focus our time on organizing Jewish community during the High Holidays."

The New Haven JVP will have their own demonstration Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Quinnipiac River Park where they will perform a Tashlich ritual to cast off their support for the Israeli Military.

News 8 reached out to the CT Palestine Solidarity Coalition for comment on the protest and have yet to hear from them.
