Local veteran wins new heater and air conditioning
WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local veteran in the Wabash Valley was going to be without heat this winter, until his friends and a local company stepped up.
Earlier this year, John Lindsey Holt's air conditioning and heat went out in his home.
When fellow church member and veteran Ed All found out about this, he wanted to change that.
"When I found out about him not having any heat in his house, it upset me. I thought what can I do to get heat for him? Then, out of the clear blue sky, this ad came on from Roehm Heating Company and what a company they are."
Roehm Refrigeration Heating and Cooling had a promotion for Veterans Day called "Heat for Heroes."
People were asked to nominate veterans for a chance to win a free heating and A/C unit. The owner, Beth D'Amico, says John was the clear choice.
"What better veteran than him. We had several people nominate him and after going through all the submissions, he was the one my team decided that really deserved it."
Not long after Veterans Day, Roehm called John to let him know he had won and that soon the new units would be installed.
"It was like a call I couldn't believe. It was out of the blue and I really had a hard time getting a hold of it and saying this is real. But it is real."
John says he doesn't know what he would have done otherwise.
"I been kind of wondering what I was going to do for the winter but now I don't wonder anymore. With Beth and her company, it's a miracle."
John says his new heater and air conditioning are great and the installation process from Roehm was completed in just one day.
