Look Back ... to JSTC's auditorium getting a name, 1949
Nov. 4—Nov. 4, 1949, in The Star: In a meeting yesterday the Alabama Board of Education approved a resolution to name the new auditorium at Jacksonville State Teachers College in memory of the late Mrs. Leone Pruette Cole, the wife of Dr. Houston Cole, president of the college. Also this date: One of the most spectacular parades in the history of the county is being planned here for Armistice Day afternoon when eight Calhoun County bands will march down Noble Street. It's believed that it will be the first time that all eight of the county bands have been included in a downtown parade. Veterans from all three wars of the past half-century or so will be represented.
Nov. 4, 1999, in The Star: With so many operational issues surrounding the Anniston Police Department, some Anniston City Council members are calling for an outside consulting firm to recommend any reforms that might need to be made. Anniston police officers, however, say they have heard this story before and see the study proposal as a ploy that will only extend the time before the department receives more money. Discussion at a council meeting regarding what should be done on the issue became tense at times yesterday as council members debated during a work session whether to have police provide four officers to patrol the streets of the city's four wards.
