National Lottery player wins $1 million prize at Florida Walmart. Where was lucky ticket sold?

A $50 scratch-off ticket bested odds of 1 in 185,709 to win $1 million in the Florida Lottery.

The ticket was sold at a Walmart on North Highland Avenue in Clearwater, according to lottery officials.

The winner has been identified as Shawandra Nichols, 48, of Clearwater. She showed up Oct. 16 at the lottery's district office in Tampa to get her prize, officials said.

"She chose to receive her winnings as a one-time lump-sum payment of $640,000," lottery officials said.

Details of how Nichols intends to spend the money were not revealed.

Walmart got $2,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The $1,000,000 game launched in February 2023 with two top prizes and 234 second-tier prizes of $1 million. So far, 87 people have won $1 million in the game, officials say.

Only one person has won a top prize in the game.

Clearwater is about a 20-mile drive west from Tampa along the Gulf Coast.
