Lyric Opera & Grant Park Orch Violinist JOINS American Music Institute

The American Music Institute (AMI) proudly welcomes acclaimed violinist Bing Jing Yu , a distinguished member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra and Grant Park Orchestra, to its faculty. Ms. Yu brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to AMI's violin and viola programs, inspiring students of all ages and skill levels. Ms. Yu received her Artist Diploma from New England Conservatory and made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1992, playing the Bach Double Concerto with the New York String Orchestra under the late Alexander Schneider. Ms Yu has been trained through Suzuki Unit 4. She believes in setting her students up for success and in meeting them where they are, to both engage and challenge her students. Ms. Yu has coached violinists of all levels preparing their excerpts for orchestra auditions. She works with all levels of students from the youngest pre-twinkler to the most advanced. Ms. Yu has performed chamber music with musicians such as Richard Stoltzman, John Gibbons and Lawrence Lesser and she is an experienced chamber music coach Besides the Lyric Opera Orchestra, she also plays with the Grant Park Orchestra and the Joffrey Ballet, where she is also an acting assistant concert master. She has served as Concertmaster for the New World Symphony, the Gardner Museum Chamber Orchestra, and she was the associate Concertmaster for the Boston Philharmonic. She was a member of the Samson Trio, who were showcased on WGBH, Classics in the Morning. She was also a member of the International Trio, who recorded works by Ami Mayyanl, released by IMP. The International Trio toured Israel and played the Triple Concerto by Beethoven with the Tel-Aviv Campus Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Yu studied with Roman Totenberg and Masuko Ushioda. Her chamber music coaches include Isidore Cohen, Felix Galimir, Leon Kirchner, Gilbert Kalish, Eugene Lehner, Arnold Steinhardt, Jaime Laredo and Lorand Fenyves. Her arrival marks another milestone for the American Music Institute as it continues to expand its high-quality music education offerings throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
