Madison Heights police are seeking tips as they investigate a crash that killed a Detroit woman when her SUV was struck by an oncoming roadside assistance vehicle.

Madison Height police Lt. David Koehler said the crash happened about 4:45 p.m. Saturday on 14 Mile Road between John R and Dequindre roads.

A woman, 77, was driving east when a man in a utility truck driving west on 14 Mile Road crossed over the center line and hit the woman’s Chevrolet Trax.

Police have not released the woman’s name.

First responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The man driving the utility truck is a 35-year-old Sterling Heights resident, Koehler said.

The surviving driver is reportedly cooperating with police.

“He’s not under arrest,” Koehler said.

Asked Monday if police suspect alcohol or distracted driving, such as cell phone use, may have been a factor in the crash, Koehler said he didn’t know.

“We’re still investigating that,” he said.

Anyone who has information related to the crash is asked to call Madison Heights police at 248-585-2100.
