Man arrested, allegedly sexually assaulted woman in Elmira
ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A man was arrested after police say he sexually assaulted a woman and assaulted multiple people in Downtown Elmira on Saturday night.
Michael J. Valderrama was arrested after police investigated reports of assaults. According to the Elmira Police Department, officers were called to the area of the Centertown Parking Garage shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 for a report about a man assaulting someone. Several other people made similar reports shortly after the initial report.
Police say the man, who was later identified as Valderrama, then made his way into a business on West Water Street and sexually assaulted a female. The victim received medical attention from Erway Ambulance after the assault. Officers identified and found Valderrama nearby with the help of witnesses.
Valderrama was charged with first-degree sexual abuse (a class D felony).
