Man charged after carjacking Amazon van, shooting at Kansas City officers
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 47-year-old Lee's Summit man is facing multiple charges after allegedly attacking two women, carjacking an Amazon van, kidnapping the driver and leading police on a chase .
Clay County prosecutors charged William Robinson with kidnapping, unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of first-degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action.
According to court documents, just after 6:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, Kansas City police officers responded to a residence in Clay County for an armed disturbance involving Robinson and two female victims.
When officers arrived on scene, one of the victim's stated she just got out of the shower and heard heard the other victim screaming for help. She grabbed a baseball bat and tried to stop Robinson, who was striking the other victim with his fists. Court documents say Robinson was able to take the bat and strike the victim several times on the head.

Robinson was no longer on scene when officers arrived. Both victims were taken to a local hospital for their injuries. One has been released while the other is listed in critical condition, sustaining a skull fracture and a brain bleed, according to court documents.
While still on scene, officers learned that Robinson had left the scene armed with a Glock 26, 9mm pistol. Just after 7:20 p.m., officers found Robinson in the area of NE 116th Place and North Farley Avenue. Court documents say when officers attempted to contact Robinson, he pulled out a gun and held it to his head. He then ran away from officers when they began using verbal commands.
Court documents say shortly after losing sight of Robinson, officers heard 5 to 6 gunshots, causing them to stop the chase and take cover. Officers found several shell casings on the ground, a short distance from their location.
A man working for Amazon Delivery was in the area of the incident, according to court documents. The Amazon worker stated he was on his last delivery of the night when the suspect entered the front passenger side of the delivery vehicle and pointed a handgun at his head and told him to "drive."
The carjacking victim stated that during the chase, Robinson made a phone call to a women and told her "I love you, I won't see ya'll again."
Court documents say during the chase, officers attempted to conduct a "tactical vehicle intervention, however it was unsuccessful. A short time later, officers were able to deploy a tire deflation device and stop the the Amazon van.
While in the area of Interstate 35 and 152 Highway, officers were fired at by Robinson, according to court documents. Once the Amazon van came to a stop, Robinson began to run on foot from officers. A short time later, officers were able to apprehend him and recover the Glock 26 pistol.

According to court documents, Robinson was convicted in March of 1995 of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and robbery and was sentenced to 30 years.
An arraignment hearing was held Monday in Clay County and a bond review hearing for Robinson is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.
