Sep. 19—A 50-year-old Sanford man who was arrested June 8 and charged with secret peeping has been charged with first- and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Walter Roy Mason was indicted on Sept. 9 for secret peeping and possessing an image of a nude video recorded with a cell phone allegedly placed clandestinely in a restroom at a residence.

He had posted a $20,000 bond on June 8 by promising to pay $2,000.

He was arrested again on Sept. 12 on the sexual exploitation charges.

He is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The victim is now 18 but was a minor on the date of the alleged offenses, Dec. 23, 2023.

For his original bond, Mason was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the victim's mother.

He has an administrative hearing set for Sept. 25 in the latter case and is set to be arraigned on Oct. 21 in the former case.

Mason, formerly of Lillington, was charged with assault by pointing a gun in February 2018 in Johnston County and carrying a concealed weapon that same month in Harnett County. Both were dismissed.
