Man dies in rear-end crash in Dickey County
A man died after the vehicle he was driving rear-ended another vehicle in Dickey County on Wednesday, authorities said.
The crash happened on U.S. Highway 281 and State Line Road, 4 miles south of Ellendale, around 7 a.m., according to a statement from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
George Wiehahn, 41, of Ellendale, was driving his GMC Sierra south on Highway 281 when he slowed to make a left tun, the Patrol said. Vernon Dalstein, 63, of Ellendale, was driving his Subaru Ascent behind Wiehahn when he struck the rear of the GMC Sierra. The vehicle driven by Dalstein, which also had passenger 63-year-old Sherry Dalstein, came to a stop in a nearby slough.
Vernon and Sherry Dalstein were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Vernon Dalstein later died as a result of serious injuries sustained in the crash.
The crash is under investigation.
