Man flees from deputies after attempted traffic stop in Mecklenburg County: Sheriff
CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A man has been charged for speeding and fleeing from officers after being caught going 25 mph over the speed limit, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
Around 9:50 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, deputies were conducting a LIDAR (speed gun) campaign when they arrested 43-year-old Albert Gregory Young.

Officials say he was seen going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone on I-85 near Mallard Creek and Church Road. A deputy attempted a traffic stop and Young appeared to slow down, but then suddenly sped off and drove recklessly through traffic. The deputy decided to stop pursuing Young due to the safety of other drivers.
Shortly after, Young got off at WT Harris Blvd where he drove into another car before crashing into a pole, officials said. After the crash, Young was seen running into a nearby wooded area along I-85. Deputies set up a perimeter and quickly found Young.
Authorties say Young and his two passengers and the driver of the other vehicle all sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Once released, Young was charged with:
Flee/elude arrest
Resisting a public officer
Cited for speeding
"Incidents like this serve as a reminder of the critical role our deputies play in ensuring safety of our roadways," Sheriff McFadden said. "While we are relieved that no lives were lost, the reckless behavior shown by Mr. Young could have resulted in a far more tragic outcome. Our commitment to public safety remains unchanged, and we will continue to conduct enforcement campaigns aimed at keeping our community safe."
