Man hospitalized after high-speed chase, $27K in cash and drugs found in rental Corvette
A man from Cape Coral was hospitalized after leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase in a rental Corvette.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said on Sunday, dispatch received multiple 911 calls from drivers reporting a Corvette speeding and recklessly driving.
The sheriff's office says the sports car was reaching speeds over 100 mph near Mile Marker 35 at approximately 12 p.m. Both MCSO and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) attempted to stop the car multiple times.
The vehicle’s tires were successfully spiked at the Channel Two Bridge, the sheriff's office says. The car stopped near Mile Marker 74. However, the driver — identified as 25-year-old Odelin Regis — fled on foot. He was caught shortly after. It was later discovered the Corvette was a rental.

“I want to thank the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office as well as the Florida Highway Patrol for getting this dangerous person off the streets before he injured someone,” said Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay.
The following were found in Regis' possession:
The sheriff's office says Regis was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier and then transported to a Miami hospital due to ingesting pills and cocaine while he was fleeing. His immediate condition on Monday was not clear.
A loaded .45-caliber handgun was found near the Channel Two Bridge after Regis was taken into custody, MCSO stated. Whether or not Regis threw out the firearm while he was fleeing from law enforcement remains under investigation.
