NASHVILLE, Tenn. ( WSMV /Gray News) - A Tennessee man was killed and four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Nashville on Thursday night.

The July 4 crash between a Honda CRV and Dodge Ram pickup occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on Interstate 40 near the White Bridge Road exit, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The Honda driver, identified as 29-year-old Jacabo Hernandez of Elm Hill Pike, was ejected and died at the scene, police said.

His passengers, a 28-year-old woman and 18-month-old boy, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Hernandez was driving east on I-40 when he lost control of his vehicle in heavy rain. The Honda hit the center median wall and eventually stopped in a driving lane.

Hernandez climbed into the back seat to check on the 18-month-old child, who was in a car seat, according to police, when the Honda was hit from behind by the truck.

Police said Hernandez was ejected from the back window.

The pickup driver was not injured, but his passengers, a woman and a 15-year-old boy, had non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the crash was caused because the Honda failed to maintain its lane.

The interstate reopened just before 10 p.m.
