Man pleads guilty after woman killed in 2023 hit-and-run in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPOUD) — A man accused in a deadly hit-and-run incident in March 2023 pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Jacob Knazs, 23, pleaded guilty to a charge of hit-and-run driving victim suffers serious injury or death.

According to an affidavit, Breunika Collins , 32, was hit by a Dodge Charger while crossing the street around 8:45 p.m. on March 12, 2023, in the 5700 block of South Sherwood Forest Boulevard.

The vehicle that struck Collins "fled the scene and did not contact authorities nor did the operator check on injuries," according to an affidavit. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where she died the following day.

On March 16, 2023, Knazs, who was identified as the operator of the Dodge Charger, turned himself in to the Baton Rouge Police Department. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of felony hit-and-run.

Knazs' sentencing is set for Wednesday, Dec. 11.
