Man posing as UPS worker caught in $8,700 identity theft in Palm Beach County
A man, dressed in a UPS uniform, is accused of using a fake ID to buy over $8,700 worth of electronics at appliance stores in Palm Beach County.
On June 24, a man reported to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) that his identity had been stolen to make several expensive purchases. The fraudulent activities took place at two Conn's Home Plus locations in Palm Beach County, where electronics worth over $8,700 were bought.
Investigators earned that on June 3 and June 8, their suspect— Joshua Edwards— not only pretended to be the victim, he also allegedly posed as a UPS worker.
Edwards is accused of making two separate purchases at the Conn's Home Plus store in Boynton Beach. The suspect bought:
The total cost of these items are worth $5,884.96, according to the PBSO report. Edwards also allegedly made purchases at the West Palm Beach location on June 3, where he bought:
The items from this fraudulent purchase are worth $2,888.98.
Surveillance footage from both store locations showed Edwards used a fake ID and was dressed in a UPS uniform during the transactions. The Boynton Beach store manager provided video stills, while the West Palm Beach store manager supplied video footage and receipts, the PBSO report stated.
PBSO said probable cause was established to arrest the 30-year-old for grand theft over $5,000 but less than $10,000 and criminal use of personal identification worth $5,000 or more.
