A man who fatally shot a 61-year-old driver during a carjacking in 2018 has been sentenced to state prison.

Angelo Delgado, 22, of Atlantic City, received a 30-year sentence on Friday, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said in a news release. Delgado, who was just 16 when the murder and carjacking occurred, was prosecuted as an adult and previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

In his guilty plea, he admitted to shooting the driver, Sunil Edla, in Ventnor City before taking off in the stolen 2002 Subaru Forrester.

Someone called 911 on the night of Nov. 15, 2018, reporting that a man was lying in the driveway of a home on North Nashville Avenue in Ventnor City. Police responded to the call at 8:04 p.m. and found Edla on the scene, suffering from gunshot wounds, officials said.

Edla, a Ventnor City resident, was pronounced dead on the scene, authorities said.

The stolen car was located parked in Atlantic City, about three miles from the scene of the carjacking. Detectives arrested Delgado the next day after they reviewed surveillance footage from the area and identified him as a suspect.
