Man with warrant flees from police on bicycle
Shamokin, Pa. — A man with a warrant out for his arrest on drug charges fled from police on a bicycle.
Officer Ethan Roughton of Shamokin Police Department was patrolling on Oct. 26 on North Franklin Street when he saw a man that he recognized from previous dealings on a blue bicycle. Glenn Charles Hart, 37, of Coal Township, had a warrant out for possession with intent to deliver, Roughton wrote in the affidavit.
Roughton saw Hart and another man on a bicycle riding on East Sunbury Street and turned on his lights in an attempt to get him to stop. Hart ignored the lights and sirens and instead proceeded north onto North Rock Street. Hart rounded back out to East Sunbury Street and wrecked at the corner of North Liberty, according to the affidavit.
Just as Roughton parked his cruiser to catch him, Hart got up and got back on the bicycle. Roughton chased Hart on foot, through several streets in Shamokin until the chain came off the bicycle and Hart fell onto the ground.
Roughton and Cpl. Alexis Temple then placed handcuffs on Hart and took him into custody. Hart is currently on probation in Northumberland County, according to the affidavit.
Police charged Hart with a felony count of evading arrest or detention on foot, flight to avoid apprehension, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct through the office of District Judge William J. Zalinski.
