Man, Woman Charged In Darien Stop & Shop Thefts Police said the arrestees have multiple active warrants for similar crimes across Connecticut and other states.

DARIEN, CT — A man and woman from Connecticut were arrested on Nov. 7 and charged in connection with two separate thefts that occurred at the Darien Stop & Shop on Old Kings Highway North last spring, according to police.

Amanda Belcher, 41, of Bridgeport, and James Coates, 49, of Stamford, were each charged with fourth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, and conspiracy, their arrest reports show.

Police said Belcher and Coates stole merchandise totaling $1,335 from the Darien grocery store on March 23 and April 21.

"The Darien Police Department, in collaboration with the Greenwich Police Department, confirmed the identities of Belcher and Coates, who have multiple active warrants for similar crimes across Connecticut and other states," police said. "The suspects were positively identified through surveillance images and previous incident reports."

Police noted the arrestees used a red Nissan Rogue with misused registration plates.

The arrestees could not post bonds due to their current detention status, police added.

Coates is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Nov, 19, and Belcher has a court date of Nov. 21.
