MANILUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV)—You never know what treasures are hiding in your home—a sleeping bag or even an old winter coat you haven't worn in years. Items we might not need are just the things volunteers like Jean Rybinski, a member of Eastern Hills Bible Church in Manlius, are digging deep to donate.

  • Cooper's new teammates excited to have him in Buffalo

  • Battleship Wisconsin ops manager recounts his service during Gulf War

  • New FTC rule aims to make it easier to cancel subscriptions

  • Letter reveals what soldier who inspired 'Saving Private Ryan' left at Normandy

  • Harris and Trump are in final sprint toward Election Day

  • With the help of volunteers and and a partnership Haun Welding, the church is loading up a truck full of boxes and bins that are being lent to towns recovering from Hurricane Helene that struck almost three weeks ago. Many residents are still without a place to live

"It's a different level when you're giving your own things... things you have a connection with. You know when you pull a coat out of the closet and remember your daughter when she was 5 years old and wearing that coat and now she's 10 years old and she doesn't need it anymore." said Rybinski, the organizer of the drive.

That's when the idea sprung of doing a donation drive, Jean brought it up to her pastor, Rob Ryerson, and, like the rest of the community, he was on board. He reached out to a church in Statesville, North Carolina, and they responded in minutes, stating it would be a huge blessing to the community.

Camping goods, coats, and diapers are just a few of the many items that people need to stay warm and healthy.

An email was sent to Rybinski sharing that "a mother whose baby died in her arms sounded like pretty much a newborn baby. Unable to stand the cold temperatures, she had nothing to keep her baby warm, so she watched her baby pass away."

This community is donating much more than items...they're donating love to those who need it the most.
