OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - The Freedom Public Library in Ocala is set to expand from 8,000 to 32,000 square feet.

This major renovation, the library's first since its 2000 opening, will add new study and meeting rooms, along with a 5,000-square-foot children's area.

Julie Sieg, Director of the Marion County Public Library System, called the current space "compressed" and expressed excitement over the new room for both children and adults to enjoy.

The expansion, funded by Marion County's ad valorem taxes, is expected to be completed by March 2026, though the library will remain open during construction.

Michelle Stone, Marion County Commissioner, highlighted the collaboration that made the project possible.

"Friends of the Library were instrumental in advocating for this expansion," Stone said.

The expanded library will offer more resources and space for the community to learn, grow, and connect.
