Mark Cuban to bring ‘AI boot camp’ to Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Mark Cuban Foundation is partnering with communications firm Notified to bring the Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp to Omaha in November.

It's offering the chance for underprivileged high school students to become familiar with artificial intelligence technology and how to apply to fields like healthcare, business and computer science.

It's all free of charge, with classes happening the first three Saturdays in November.

Seth Kleinwort is the operations and outcomes assistant director at Creighton University's Fahey Career Center. He thinks the boot camp is a good idea to get youth involved with AI.

"It's not going away," Kleinwort said. "We need to understand that it's going to be here. So how can we use it to our advantage in an ethical and useful way?"

He said the boot camp is beneficial for younger generations, but admitted AI is controversial for a lot of people.

"They're worried about it letting people not learn," he said. I think if we can teach students, especially younger generations, how to use this tool for their advantage, it's only going to benefit us. It really is going to help level the playing field for a lot of students."

He said Creighton's business students and other undergraduates are already using it for programming and coding.

"The people who are going to be hired in the future are those that know how to use AI to better their career, to better their position, and not those that are going to have their job 'replaced.'

He also said it'll expand to play that role across all industries.

The deadline to sign up for the AI Bootcamp is Sept. 30. If you would like to register your student, click here .
