Mary Jo Nuxoll was born Jan 1st, 1938, in Superior Wisconsin to Frank and Josetta Heinen, and was a resident of Walnut Creek since 1973. After filling 86 years with family and friends, she passed away peacefully at Kaiser Walnut Creek Hospital on Aug 30th, 2024, with family by her side. She is survived by her son Frank, and her sisters Maureen Koenen and Patricia Heinen. She is predeceased by her husband Merwyn F Nuxoll and her brothers Francis and James Heinen. She received her nursing diploma from St. Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse WI in 1961 and her B.S. in Biology from Viterbo College in La Crosse in 1963. A member of Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in La Crosse from 1954-69, she served in hospitals in WI, IA, ID, and El Salvador, where she spent three years in Public Health in charge of a clinic. She received her MSN from UCSF in Maternal/Child Nursing in 1976. From 1974-97 she was a Nursing Instructor at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg CA where she served on the Faculty Senate Council, developed curriculum, was a mentor to students and also was a member of the Faculty Association of Community Colleges and the Association of Women's Health Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses. She was a proud member of St. Stephen Catholic Parish, a Minister To The Sick, part of the RCIA Program, Religious Education for Children and the choir among many other activities there. After retirement she volunteered for Bay Area Crisis Nursery and the American Cancer Society. She loved golfing with the Buchanan Fields Women, barbershop singing, her book club, the San Francisco Giants, traveling and gardening. A service will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church 1101 Keaveny Ct, Walnut Creek, CA on Saturday Sept 28th, 1:00pm. Interment with her husband at Greencreek Cemetery in ID to follow at a later date.
